That morning felt different from the others. The celebration of Indonesia’s Independence Day took place on Friday, October 31, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the courtyard of the Indonesian Embassy in Kuwait City.
The red and white colors proudly fluttered in the air, symbolizing the enduring spirit of independence that lives in the hearts of Indonesians, wherever they may be.
Even far from home, the love for Indonesia was deeply felt. The event was attended not only by Indonesians in Kuwait from various backgrounds and the big family of the Embassy, but also by distinguished guests, Ambassadors and representatives from friendly nations who came with great respect and enthusiasm.
Everyone gathered with joy and excitement, creating a warm and lively atmosphere that felt like bringing a piece of Indonesia to foreign soil.
From afar, the aroma of Indonesian cuisine filled the air. Food bazaar stalls lined up neatly, decorated with batik cloths, red-and-white flags, and the friendly smiles of vendors proudly offering regional dishes, nasi padang, sate ayam, pempek Palembang, bakso, es cendol, and many other beloved Indonesian specialties. Every bite felt like a journey home, even if only for a day.
The sound of Indonesia Raya echoed proudly, marking the start of the ceremony. For the Indonesian diaspora, this moment was more than a formality, it was a heartfelt expression of love and longing for the homeland.
The cultural performances became one of the main highlights. The Indonesian community showcased various traditional dances such as the Tari Pendet, Tari Tor-Tor, and a cheerful flash mob “Tabola Bale.” There was also a music performance by children from the ICFK community, whose energy and smiles lit up the stage. Each performance was met with warm applause, including from foreign guests who were clearly amazed by the richness of Indonesia’s culture.
During the event,Indonesian Ambassador to Kuwait Lena Maryana, delivered a heartfelt speech expressing her pride in the unity and creativity of the Indonesian community in Kuwait. She also extended her appreciation to the organizing committee and all participants for their dedication and hard work in making the event a success.
This year’s Independence Day celebration featured something special, traditional games for all generations. Children, mothers, and fathers joined in friendly competitions filled with laughter, teamwork, and joy. The audience cheered enthusiastically, their faces glowing with pride. There was no anger or disappointment, only laughter and togetherness echoing throughout the day.
“It’s not about winning,” someone joyfully said, “it’s about being happy together!”
As the sun began to set, the familiar rhythm of dangdut music “Kopi Dangdut” played to close the event. The crowd danced, laughed, and waved their small red and white flags as they headed home with grateful hearts and proud smiles.
That day, in a foreign land, Indonesia felt so close, in the laughter, the friendship, and the shared pride of being Indonesian. 🇮🇩❤️
